"Premium fuel recommended for best performance"

My owners manual says "Premium fuel recommended for best performance". I have heard that if I don't use premium grades of gasoline more deposits would form in the engine. Is this so?

No! regular gasoline actually has more energy in it and it burns more rapidly, so your apt to get a better burn with it, and end up with less deposits leftover. Premium fuel burns slower and there is also this myth that it contains more detergents cleaners which is not so. If your using a "Top TIER" gasoline then all grades of gasoline must be approved by the automakers as providing TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline.

The reason for the term "Premium fuel is recomended for best performance" has to do with tests run by the manufacture such as 0-60 MPH, which are performance claims.
